We comunicate that the Mineral gallery evolution is closed due to renovation works.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

The mineral collection started to take form in 1844, when Leopoldo Pilla brought from Naples the Vesuvian collection. The mineral collection remarkably enlarged among the end of the 19th century and the beginning of 1900 with the contribution of\u00a0Antonio D\u2019Achiardi and its son Giovanni. The\u00a0mineral gallery<\/strong>\u00a0was opened to the public in 1994, redesigned in 2002, after the acquiring of the Cerpelli and D\u2019Amore collection, and set up again in 2014 including new collection.<\/p>\n

The initial part of the gallery is devoted to the\u00a0origin of the Solar system\u00a0<\/strong>and the\u00a0historical meteorites collection<\/strong>\u00a0and includes the greatest Italian meteorite: the Bagnone\u2019s ottaedrite and a weight of 48 kgs.<\/p>\n

The central part of the gallery is devoted to the\u00a0Tuscany mineralogical collection<\/strong>\u00a0and is introduced by a great panel representing the lithologic diversity of the Tuscany area and a relief map of the marble area of Carrara realized in\u00a01906 basing on the geological studies carried out by Domenico Zaccagna.
\nThe\u00a0Tuscany collection<\/strong>\u00a0includes over 400\u00a0specimen, mainly from the Apuane and the Elba. Among these are particularly remarkable the enormous geocronite crystals from\u00a0Valdicastello (Pietrasanta, Lucca); the pegmatites of San Piero in Campo (Elba) among which a huge specimen with over 30 tourmaline crystals; the Del Taglia collection with 180 mineral specimens of the Apuane\u2019s marble; the minerals of the iron cave of the Elba and the wonderful crystallisation from Bottino (Stazzema, Lucca)\u00a0of the Cerpelli\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n

The gallery includes also a vast\u00a0systematic section<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0lab<\/strong>\u00a0devoted to minerals features.<\/p>\n

At the end of the gallery are still exposed the most representative specimens of the\u00a0D\u2019Amore donation<\/strong>,\u00a0among which the big geodes of quartz amethyst from Brasil and the celestina\u2019s crystal from Madagascar.<\/p>\n
